What Is The Best Protein Powder?

Eating 5 pork tenderloins and 2 pieces of steak each meal or everyday can defiantly get you pulling the hairs out of your head. Consuming all the protein you need for muscle building can sometimes be difficult and that is why you may need a protein supplement. Firstly, you need to calculate the protein you need each day and then divide that over the course of about 6 meals.

Most protein powder that are may either consist of whey or casein which both originate from milk.  You can choose to go with just whey or buy one that has a blend of both. Getting a blend will optimize your protein in take since you'll be getting whey and casein even though its not necessary.Whey is fast absorbing and casein is slow absorbing.  We will outline the types of proteins and our best product choices.

Whey protein

Whey protein Hydrolyzed - derives from cheese and milk and is a fast absorbing and high quality protein.

Whey protein Isolate – Second best in high quality like the hydrolyzed but still very good and affordable.

Whey protein Concentrate - A little lower quality of whey protein due to the low digestive rate but its cheaper than the isolate.

Check out our article on Whey isolate vs whey concentrate protein

Casein Protein

Casein protein makes up 80% of the protein in milk. Since casein protein is digests slowly its best to not use it for pre/post workout purposes.

Also soy protein is an additional option but since it isn't as effective I would suggest sticking to the others listed above. The reason is because soy protein has shown to increase estrogen levels in men which tends to decrease potential muscle growth.

Points to consider when choosing a protein powder supplement.

1. Nutritional benefits (ex. protein/BCAA amount etc)

1. Taste/Flavor

2. Price

3. How long has the company/product been around?

4. What time are you going to use it (ex. before or after workout?)

5. What will you mix it with?

6. Your goals (ex. fat loss or building muscle

How To Get Motivated To Work Out

Getting motivated to get up and go to the gym can sometimes be challenging. You're not the only one who procrastinates on exercising, yes we all do at some point but the goal is overcoming that obstacle.

There are a lot of ways you can motivate yourself but I’m going to list the top ones that are most effective and have worked for me.

1. Goals and reason to follow through

If you ever been to the gym at the beginning of January you'd notice that it’s packed with people starting out on their new year’s resolutions. Now come back in March and 80% of them are gone. They set goals, have the right intentions to exercise and get into shape but however most fail to do so.

Whatever the reason may be you need to commit your very being to it. Having a set goal and working towards it will help you reach success.

2. Look forward to it

The only way to be able to exercise and work out on a consistent schedule is if you actually enjoy doing what you do. If you're just dragging your way through each work out then you most likely won't do it for a long term basis.

Find a sport or work out plan you will have fun doing, whether that's yoga, pilates, going to the gym or working out at home.

3. Looking attractive

Everyone wants to look attractive and working out allows you to that. You won't just get attention from the opposite sex alone but your friends will notice too. You will start to get compliments in turn making you feel better.

Remember, 80% of feeling good is looking good!

4.  Motivation from media

What I find helps me a lot is reading forums and watching videos on YouTube. Additional things you can do are read books, magazines, blogs and success stories from others online.

Watching movies can also be another motivating factor if you’re looking to get that movie star physique.

Listening to music is also very beneficial especially in the gym. It will pump you up and cancel out all the other noises and distractions around you.

5. Setting a plan and being prepared

One of the biggest reasons people quit working out is because they never have an organized plan and schedule to follow.

You need to develop a detailed plan of when you’re going to work out, what you’re going to eat, what supplements you're going to take and what exercises you're going to do. Remeber to be very clear in what you want and the next step you're going to take to get there. Your brain loves clarity/purpose and its much easier for it to accomplish things. Doing this will make things simpler to manage and you will be more likely to go through with it.

6. Discipline and will power

Some of you may not be familiar or understand the term will power and what it means. Will power is one of your strongest abilities you have and if you put it to the right use it can do wonders.

When you have a burning desire to be successful you WILL BECOME successful. If success to you means to get in shape then you must want it bad enough.

Have control over your body don’t let your body control you. This means resisting those cravings, not giving in because you feel a little pain since it is only temporary and won’t last forever.

Lastly don’t make excuses or procrastinate, get to it now!

7. Having a gym buddy or partner

A gym buddy is great for many reasons. Firstly you'll be obliged to go to the gym because you don't want to ditch your friend. Secondly, it will give you a spotter for the tough exercises.

However choose your gym buddy wisely because you don't to be slacking off.

8. Treat yourself after a workout

Treat yourself to a massage, a swim in the pool or a day at the beach. These types of activities will not only be enjoyable but push you to look good since you'll need to show some skin!
